Information of over 100,000 police officers in the UK leaked to the dark web

It has been reported that personal and professional information belonging to more than 100,000 police officers was leaked as a result of a cyberattack targeting several government institutions in the UK. According to reports in the British press, the leaked data includes the names, contact information, and duty stations of the officers.

It is alleged that the attackers seized data belonging to the Ministry of Defence, the Home Office, the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA), and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). It was stated that a portion of the data was shared on "dark web" forums.

It was also noted that hackers infiltrated the Police National Legal Database (PNLD), which is used by police in England and Wales for legal support, and that duty station information obtained from there was also transferred to online environments.

British authorities believe that the cybercrime group known as "ExfilSquad" is behind the attack. The incident has brought the data security practices of public institutions back to the agenda due to the exposure of information belonging to security personnel.

A cyberattack was also carried out against the Department for Education in the UK on July 29. It was announced that approximately 607,000 pieces of data, including phone numbers and email addresses belonging to individuals and organizations, were leaked in that attack.
