Iran denies claims regarding Strait of Hormuz
Sources speaking to the Iranian press have rejected claims that an agreement has been reached to open the Strait of Hormuz to ship traffic.
The Iranian press reported that claims regarding an agreement to open the Strait of Hormuz to ship traffic do not reflect the truth.
According to the semi-official Fars News Agency, an unnamed source described as being close to the Iranian negotiating team stated that no agreement has been made to open the strait to ship traffic.
In the same report, a military source whose views were included stated that if the US continues its actions, which it described as "hostile," the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed.
The source noted that ships would only be able to pass through via the announced route and with the permission of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.
The statement regarding the Strait of Hormuz, which is among the critical transit points for global energy and maritime transport, came at a time when debates over navigation safety and transit conditions in the region are ongoing.
