Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf: US plot on western border thwarted
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf claimed that a US plan targeting Iran's western borders was thwarted with the cooperation of the KRG.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that a "plot" he alleged the US had prepared on Iran's western borders has been thwarted. During a meeting in Tehran with Bafel Talabani, leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Iraq, Ghalibaf argued that the process was rendered unsuccessful through the cooperation of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the initiatives of the Iranian armed forces.
According to Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency, Ghalibaf noted during the meeting that the US and Israel had not anticipated that Iran could show this level of resistance. Ghalibaf stated, "The plot prepared by the US on Iran's western borders was defeated through the cooperation of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the initiatives of the armed forces."
Ghalibaf claimed that the US would not abandon its plans against Iran, alleging that Washington is attempting to create a rift between Iran and Iraq. The Iranian Parliament Speaker said that to neutralize such attempts, relations with neighboring countries must be strengthened in every field.
The meeting with Talabani took place at a time when Tehran is continuing its contacts with Iraq and the KRG on regional issues, primarily border security.
