Number of Democratic members of Congress calling on Biden to 'withdraw' is increasing

According to a report by the New York Times (NYT), Marc Veasey from Texas, Mark Pocan from Wisconsin, Jesus Garcia from Illinois, and Jared Huffman from California have sent a letter to Biden.

As the questioning process regarding the President's mental and physical health continues following his debate with his Republican rival Donald Trump, 4 Democratic members of the House of Representatives stated in the letter that Biden should withdraw from the presidential race.

The letter, which included the phrase "Now is the time to pass the torch to new Democratic leaders," noted the following:

"We must face the reality that widespread public concerns about your age and health are jeopardizing a campaign that needs to be won. These perceptions may not be fair, but they have increased since last month's debate and it no longer seems likely that they will change. In this situation, the most responsible and patriotic action to take is to withdraw from the candidacy while continuing to lead the party from the White House."

Another Democratic member of the House of Representatives from California, Zoe Lofgren, noted in the letter she sent to Biden that his candidacy is trending toward losing the White House and will likely negatively affect the House and Senate races, and advised him to withdraw from the candidacy "to give another Democratic candidate who can defeat Trump in the elections a chance."

NUMBER OF MEMBERS CALLING FOR WITHDRAWAL RISES TO 31

Democratic member of the House of Representatives from Ohio, Greg Landsman, also joined the calls for Biden to withdraw from the candidacy with a written statement. Landsman stated, "It is time for President Biden to step aside and for us to nominate a new leader who can credibly and consistently defend America's future against Donald Trump."

On the other hand, Democratic Senator Martin Heinrich from New Mexico stated in a written statement, "Whether or not to withdraw from the race is a decision entirely up to President Biden. I believe that it would be in our country's best interest for him to withdraw from the candidacy."

Thus, the number of Democratic members of Congress calling on Biden to withdraw from his presidential candidacy has risen to 31.
