The plane piloted by Turkish businessman Mehmet Çankaya, which went missing after losing radio contact on September 13 in Colombia, has been located. Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella announced that the 5 people on board the Cessna T206 aircraft, registration number HK4985, have lost their lives.

In a statement on his social media account, De la Espriella confirmed that the plane had been found and that authorities had verified that everyone on board was found dead.

"With great sadness and deep pain, I confirm to our country that the Cessna T206 aircraft with registration number HK4985 has been found. Unfortunately, authorities have confirmed that everyone on board was found to have lost their lives."

President De la Espriella also issued a message of condolence to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives. In his statement, he said, "We share in their grief with deep respect in the face of this irreparable loss."

The plane had taken off from Mandinga Airport in Condoto, in the Choco region, bound for Guaymaral Airport in Bogota. It was reported that in addition to Çankaya, there were 4 Colombian passengers on board.

The Colombian Civil Aviation Authority and rescue teams determined that the plane crashed in a mountainous area at an altitude of approximately 9,000 feet within the borders of the Pueblo Rico municipality in the Risaralda region. It was reported that the emergency radio transmitter in the area had been activated following the crash.

Due to the rugged and difficult terrain, it was not possible to deploy teams directly to the crash site by air. Search and rescue teams reached the wreckage site by land after trekking through the challenging terrain.

It was noted that Turkish businessman Mehmet Çankaya, who operated in the tourism sector, was known for his philanthropy.
