Thousands of police officers demanding pay raises march in Paris

Thousands of police officers in France demanding pay raises and better working conditions held a demonstration in the capital, Paris. The protest, organized at the call of the Alliance Police Nationale, one of the country's leading police unions, followed a dispute with the government over the budget allocated to security units.

Police officers who traveled to Paris from different regions marched from the Champs-Élysées toward the National Assembly building. While union flags and banners were carried during the demonstration, some participants were seen wearing masks featuring the face of President Emmanuel Macron.

The police officers participating in the action demanded an increase in duty bonuses and compensation, as well as improvements to their working conditions. Former Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, who is a candidate for the 2027 presidential election, also attended the demonstration.

The Alliance Police Nationale had failed to achieve the expected results from its September 4 meeting with Interior Minister Laurent Nunez regarding the provision of additional allowances for police officers. It was stated that the union's call for protest was made following these discussions.
