Trump administration announces, court overturns decision

Boston District Judge Allison Burroughs has temporarily stayed the decision that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security conveyed to Harvard yesterday.

Judge Burroughs halted the decision to block Harvard University from accepting international students "until further information and documentation regarding the process are provided."

HARVARD HAD FILED A LAWSUIT

The decision in question came immediately after Harvard University filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration.

Harvard University, which has been prominent in the U.S. for its pro-Palestine protests, had sued the President Trump administration for halting its international student admission program on the grounds that it "did not comply with relevant laws."

The petition for the lawsuit filed by Harvard University in the federal court in Boston stated that the U.S. administration's halting of international student admissions to the university "violated the constitution."

The federal government had threatened to freeze federal funding for many universities, including Harvard, citing campus protests held primarily in support of Palestine, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

During this process, an "Anti-Semitism Task Force" was established in partnership with the Department of Justice, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Education, and the General Services Administration (GSA).

The Trump administration had decided to freeze the 2.2 billion dollar funding and 60 million dollar contract value provided to Harvard, and the university had filed a lawsuit to block this decision, arguing that the federal government's freezing of funds was unlawful.
