Trump signs executive order on artificial intelligence

The White House announced that the executive order signed by Trump, titled 'Promoting Advanced Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Safety,' aims to accelerate technological growth and economic investment by reducing restrictions on AI developers.

The order states that cybersecurity efforts, conducted in line with an 'America First' vision, will enhance both national security and the U.S.'s 'global AI dominance.'

Emphasizing that U.S. policy is to promote AI innovation and safety through collaboration with the private sector, the order grants relevant agencies a 30-day period to prioritize the cyber defenses of these systems.

The order notes that a confidential benchmarking process will be developed within 60 days to evaluate the cyber capabilities of advanced U.S. AI models, and that which systems will be considered 'covered frontier models' will be determined as a result of this process.

Furthermore, the order states that no mandatory government licensing, pre-approval, or permitting requirements will be imposed for the development, release, or distribution of new AI models, noting that developers who wish to do so may submit their models for secure and confidential review by the federal government for up to 30 days before bringing them to market.
