US Vice President James David Vance made a statement on his social media account regarding the losses the Republican Party suffered in Congress during the midterm elections held in the US. Arguing that the main reason Republicans lost the elections was the Iran war, Vance noted that US President Donald Trump also pointed to this situation in his statement the previous night.
Vance said, "The reason we lost is the war. The President said this himself last night. If you want to argue that it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was a price worth paying, then go ahead and argue it. Assert that it was a price worth paying. Whether you agree or disagree, at least that would be an honest approach." he said.
Despite the election results, Vance called for support for Republican candidates, stating, "However, everyone knows why we lost. Any honest discussion about how we move forward from here must start there. I remain hopeful for our country. To those who are angry and want to say 'I told you so,' I say this: You are right, you really did tell us. Use this energy to get Republican candidates elected who share your worldview. To those who are angry about the results, I tell them they are right to be angry. Let's use this anger to get back to work to save our country." he added.
"The Iran war, cost of living, 'America First' and US-Israel relations"
In his statement, Vance referred to a study by a pollster whose name he did not disclose but whom he knows well. Stating that the study asked voters who voted for Trump in 2024 but supported Democrats in 2026 what steps would lead them to turn back to the Republicans, Vance wrote that the four prominent issues were ending the Iran war, focusing on the cost of living and inflation, adopting an "America First" policy, and changing the US's relationship with Israel.
Vance stated, "Our voters went to the polls. The four reasons I listed above explain why a significant portion of them voted for the Democrats. Moreover, these are the findings of a pollster who correctly predicted the election results."
"The problem is that many people who voted for Trump in 2024 voted for the Democrats in 2026"
The US Vice President argued that the reason for the Republican Party's loss was not voter turnout, saying, "Our voters went to the polls. Undoubtedly, there were places where we could have performed better regarding voter turnout. But the real problem is not the turnout rate. The fundamental problem is that many people who voted for Trump and Vance in 2024 voted for the Democrats in 2026."
