7.6 magnitude earthquake in the Caribbean! Tsunami warning issued for numerous countries
A 7.6 magnitude earthquake has occurred off the coast of the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean. Following the quake, a tsunami warning was issued for many countries with coastlines on the Caribbean Sea.
A 7.6 magnitude earthquake has occurred off the coast of the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor was recorded at 18:23 local time at a depth of 10 kilometers.
It was reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was 209 kilometers southwest of George Town, the capital of the Cayman Islands.
In a statement issued by the International Tsunami Information Center, a tsunami warning was declared, stating, "Hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts within the next 3 hours for the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Cuba, Mexico, Honduras, the Bahamas, Haiti, the Turks and Caicos Islands, Belize, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Panama, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, the US Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, and Saba."
The US National Tsunami Warning Center announced that there is no tsunami risk for the US mainland, but that tsunami waves could be seen in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
