Visa decision for Turkish citizens from that country

While Japan is known as one of the few developed countries that can be visited visa-free from Turkey, it is considering a change in its visa policy due to the recent rise in refugee applications and incidents involving settlers from Turkey.

According to reports in Japan Forward, the Japanese government has placed a 'controlled entry' practice for certain countries, including Turkey, on its agenda.

TURKEY'S POSITION IN REFUGEE APPLICATIONS

It is noteworthy that among the countries applying for refugee status in Japan, Turkey is the only one that does not require a visa. Furthermore, some individuals traveling to Japan with Turkish citizenship becoming involved in social disturbances has led to a review of visa policies.

Within the scope of the planned changes, the introduction of a 'tourist visa' system that can be obtained through simple applications for short-term travel from Turkey is being considered. Currently, Turkish citizens can enter Japan visa-free for 90 days. However, tensions between supporters of the terrorist organization PKK and local residents and police in Japan in 2023 had already caused this exemption to be re-evaluated.
