Future political historians will write the cautionary tale of how, on the 103rd anniversary of the Turks casting the Sèvres Treaty—their total death warrant—into the dustbin of history, they were lured into the trap of a Masked Sèvres. They will recount the shameful details of how the current deputies of the Veteran Parliament, which tore up Sèvres, competed with one another and raised the stakes to approve a Postmodern Sèvres.
Sèvres was a document of captivity and death that Western imperialism brought to the agenda to solve the “Eastern Question.” The Turkish geography was to be partitioned and colonized, the Turks were to be turned into pariahs of a colony, and in the long run, they were to be permanently expelled from their homeland.
On July 22, 1920, the 43-member Council of the Sultanate, gathered at the Yıldız Palace in occupied Istanbul, would approve Sèvres with only one exception. The only person to cast a dissenting vote was Artillery General Rıza Pasha! Three traitors who possessed not a shred of national sentiment or honor, Rıza Tevfik (President of the Council of State), Mehmet Hadi Pasha of Baghdad (Minister of Education), and Reşat Halis (Ambassador to Bern), would sign Sèvres on August 10, 1920, in accordance with the orders given to them!
The Veteran Parliament, holding an extraordinary session on August 19, 1920, would declare those who approved and signed Sèvres as traitors to the homeland and sentence them to death in absentia! Following the victory of the War of Independence, the three traitorous signatories would be stripped of Turkish citizenship as part of the “150 Personae Non Gratae” and exiled abroad! (Though, as the Turkish Army entered İzmir, the traitors, having anticipated the price of their betrayal, would have already fled abroad by seeking refuge with the British.)
Do you think the Veteran Deputies of the Veteran Parliament, and the martyrs and veterans of the liberation who sleep peacefully in their graves, ever imagined that on the 103rd anniversary of the Republic—founded with blood and wisdom, and achieved through great national sacrifice—initiatives would be orchestrated under the roof of the Veteran Parliament that would render meaningless the military victory won with the bayonet and the international legal victory won with the diplomatic bayonet!
Let us underline that the “mastermind” and “superior will” that brought the Postmodern Sèvres—powdered and rouged with the demagoguery of “Peace and Brotherhood - A Turkey Without Terror”—to the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) are being carefully hidden from the public.
Let us ask the current deputies, who should be the spiritual heirs of the Veteran Deputies in the TBMM:
You have so fervently supported and approved a text that cancels the fundamental software of the Republic of Turkey—which is based on the Turkish Nation, the nation-state, and the unitary structure—and implements a Postmodern Sèvres with imperial software, paving the way for ethnic quotas instead of a nation. Had you been waiting so long for this text to come to the agenda of the TBMM!
