Journalist Eda Şahin’s debut crime novel, “From a Journalist’s Pen: The Tüfekli File,” has met readers under the Maceraperest Kitaplar imprint of Oğlak Yayınları. Set in Istanbul, the novel examines a murder investigation through the eyes of journalist Sevda Korkman, calling on the reader not only to track the crime but also to confront the truths hidden in the characters' pasts.
The story begins when Sevda Korkman unexpectedly finds herself involved in a murder case. Her path crosses with Homicide Bureau Chief Kemal Suphi Alpsoy to shed light on the incident, and as the investigation progresses, Sevda is drawn into an increasingly complex picture. In this process, where suspicions shift and apparent truths are questioned, Sevda’s own past becomes as significant as the secret behind the murders.
“The Tüfekli File” goes beyond a classic whodunit, focusing on the relationship between crime, the past, and identity. The dynamic between Sevda Korkman, who acts with journalistic reflexes, and Kemal Suphi Alpsoy, who conducts the investigation from a police perspective, forms one of the two main veins of the story. As the duo tracks the murders, each new clue forces them to re-evaluate not only the events but also the people they thought they knew.
Bringing her experience in journalism into the world of fiction, Eda Şahin constructs a narrative in her first novel that drags the reader along in pursuit of questions. While “The Tüfekli File” makes one wonder how a murder will be solved, it also poses a more personal question to the reader: Who is the Sevda Korkman that everyone knows, really?
“From a Journalist’s Pen: The Tüfekli File” was published under the Maceraperest Kitaplar imprint of Oğlak Yayınları.
