Iranian director Dariush Mehrjui and actress Mohammadifar murdered
Iranian director Dariush Mehrjoui and his wife, actress Vahideh Mohammadifar, have been found murdered in their home in Karaj. Regarding the incident, Iranian police stated, "The motive for the murder is still unknown."

According to Iran's official news agency IRNA, Iranian judicial official Hossein Fazeli stated that Mehrjoui and his wife Vahideh Mohammadifar were found dead with knife wounds to their necks.
''THE MURDER WAS COMMITTED AS A RESULT OF INJURIES''
Regarding the incident, the Iranian police stated: “This incident occurred at the hands of an unknown person or persons for an unknown reason, and the motive for the murder is still unknown. Evidence shows that this murder was committed as a result of injuries caused by sharp weapons to the neck and body areas."
Born in Tehran in 1939, director Mehrjoui was known as one of the founders of Iran's 'new film wave focusing on realism' in the early 1970s.
He received many awards, including the Silver Hugo award from the Chicago International Film Festival in 1998 and the Golden Seashell award from the San Sebastián International Film Festival in 1993. He studied in the film program at the University of California, Los Angeles in the early 1960s.
With his second film, Gav (The Cow), which he shot in 1969, the director followed in the footsteps of Italian neorealist cinema, and with the film Gav, he pioneered the start of the Iranian New Wave movement.
The director's world-famous films are as follows: The Cow, The Cycle, The Tenants, Hamoun, Leila, The Pear Tree, The Santoor Player, Laminor. Actress Vahideh Mohammadifar also appeared in many well-known films.
