Access restriction had been imposed: Statement from X regarding Ekrem İmamoğlu's account!

The X platform announced that, in accordance with the decision of the Istanbul 8th Criminal Judgeship of Peace, an access restriction has been imposed on Ekrem İmamoğlu's official Presidential Candidate Office account in Turkey. The company stated that it has implemented the court order numbered 2026/6804 within the scope of legal obligations in Turkey, but that it has initiated an appeal process against the decision.

STATEMENT FROM X REGARDING THE COURT ORDER

In the statement made by the company, it was said, "While Turkey's laws compel us to comply with this decision, we are challenging this order in court and are sharing the court decision in the spirit of full transparency."

X also recalled that a similar access restriction decision was taken regarding another account belonging to Ekrem İmamoğlu in May 2025, and that a legal appeal was filed during that process as well.

EMPHASIS ON FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION

The statement noted that such court orders could lead to sanctions that might affect the platform's operations in Turkey. Nevertheless, the company noted that it would continue its legal initiatives in line with the principles of freedom of expression and access to information.

X also included the statement, "We believe that the platform remaining accessible in Turkey is vital for freedom of expression and access to information."

APPLICATION AT THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT IS ONGOING

The company announced that its application against the access restriction decision taken in May 2025 continues to be examined at the Constitutional Court. While it was stated that a decision is awaited following the latest applications, it was reported that legal challenges will continue in Turkey and other countries against content removal requests that are considered inconsistent with freedom of expression, the right to a fair trial, and local laws.
