Digiturk prices vary by province: They watch the same matches but do not pay the same fee

It has emerged that beIN Sports, the broadcaster of the Trendyol Süper League, applies different prices for Digiturk packages depending on the province. The monthly fee for the “Yıldız Dolu” package, which offers the same content, varies according to the region where the subscriber is located.

According to the current tariff on Digiturk's sales channels, the package is priced across three different regions. The monthly fee for “Yıldız Dolu,” offered with a 12-month installment option on credit cards, is applied as 399 TL in the 3rd Region, 449 TL in the 2nd Region, and 579 TL in the 1st Region.

A 2,160 TL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PROVINCES

Due to the different pricing, the amount paid for the same package changes from city to city. While the monthly fee is 399 TL in Diyarbakır, which is in the 3rd Region, it rises to 579 TL in İzmir, which is covered by the 1st Region.

Thus, while the monthly difference between the two provinces is 180 TL, the total annual difference reaches 2,160 TL.

Despite the price change, there is no difference in the content offered by the packages based on the regions. All tariffs include Super League matches as well as the TFF 1st League, Premier League, French League, Basketball Super League, Formula 1, and other sports channels. The broadcasts can be watched via the Türksat satellite.

WHICH PROVINCES ARE INCLUDED IN THE REGIONS?

Pricing is not based solely on an east-west division. The 3rd Region includes Diyarbakır, Van, Mardin, Şanlıurfa, Hakkari, Adana, Mersin, Gaziantep, Hatay, and Çorum.

Provinces such as Antalya, Bursa, Kocaeli, Muğla, Manisa, and Eskişehir are included in the 2nd Region with a price of 449 TL, while Istanbul and İzmir are in the 1st Region group.

WHY IS DİGİTURK DOING THIS?

According to Odatv, the terms “Priority Provinces for Development Campaign” and “Additional Provinces Campaign” are used on Digiturk's official support page. However, a detailed calculation regarding which economic criteria were used to create the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd regions is not available on publicly accessible pages.

According to information obtained, it was stated that the average income levels of the provinces and the socio-economic development ranking of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) were taken into account in the pricing, and that the goal was to increase the number of official subscribers in regions where purchasing power is relatively low.

It was also stated that because the rates of pirate/IPTV usage are higher in provinces where price sensitivity is high, the aim is to direct illegal viewers toward legal subscriptions by lowering membership fees.

REACTION ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The practice has caused a reaction among some fans. Users who find it unfair that there is a fee difference based on geographical location among subscribers watching the same matches have called on the Ministry of Trade and Consumer Arbitration Committees on social media.

No official statement has been made by the broadcasting organization regarding the matter yet.
