Ahmet Ercan responds to alarming question following earthquake in Şanlıurfa

According to data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), a 5.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Karaköprü district of Şanlıurfa at 10:40 AM.

AFAD reported that the tremor was recorded at a depth of 7.39 kilometers. The earthquake was felt in the city center of Şanlıurfa as well as in Diyarbakır, Mardin, Siirt, Şırnak, Batman, Gaziantep, Adıyaman, and Malatya.

Following the tremor, Geophysical Engineer Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan shared an assessment on his social media account.

Ercan stated that the earthquake occurred on the Bozova fault line, approximately 20 kilometers away from Şanlıurfa.

Describing the tremor as a "medium-sized earthquake," Ercan included the following statements in his explanation:

"The M5.5 magnitude earthquake in Şanlıurfa occurred on the Bozova fault line, twenty kilometers away from Urfa. It is a medium-sized earthquake. The destructive magnitude in Şanlıurfa is M6.3.
