Akın Gürlek announced: 11 people arrested in forest fire investigations

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that legal proceedings have been initiated against 6 suspects in investigations regarding 10 forest fires that occurred in 8 provinces over the last week. Gürlek reported that since June 1, 2026, a total of 43 suspects have been identified in connection with 64 fires across 22 provinces.

Akın Gürlek announced: 11 people arrested in forest fire investigations

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek provided information regarding the judicial investigations conducted into the forest fires that have occurred in various provinces recently.

Gürlek announced that judicial proceedings have been initiated against 6 suspects in investigations related to 10 forest fires that broke out in Adıyaman, Antalya, Aydın, Balıkesir, Bilecik, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, and Sinop over the last week. In this context, 2 suspects have been arrested, while judicial control measures were imposed on 1 suspect. It was stated that the detention procedures for the other 3 suspects are ongoing.

Proceedings initiated for 64 fires since June 1

Minister Gürlek's statements are as follows;

"Those who target our green homeland will be held accountable before justice. We are resolutely following the judicial processes regarding the forest fires that threaten our Green Homeland, which is our breath, our future, and one of the most precious legacies we will leave to future generations. Under the close supervision of our Department of Natural Disasters and Accidents, our Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices are investigating the causes of the fires and those responsible in all aspects.

In the investigations regarding the 10 forest fires that occurred in Adıyaman, Antalya, Aydın, Balıkesir, Bilecik, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, and Sinop in the last week, proceedings have been initiated against 6 suspects; 2 suspects have been arrested, judicial control measures have been imposed on 1 suspect, and the detention procedures for 3 suspects are continuing.

Since June 1, 2026, a total of 43 suspects have been identified in relation to 64 forest fires for which judicial proceedings were initiated in our 22 provinces. Of the suspects, 11 have been arrested, and judicial control measures have been applied to 18 suspects. The detention procedures for 3 suspects are ongoing.

May our nation rest assured; those who intentionally burn our forests and those who cause fires through negligence or carelessness are being held accountable before justice. We will not allow any forest fire with suspected criminal activity to remain unsolved."
