Criminal complaint from AKP Mayor Çerçioğlu against CHP Chairman Özel: 'An irresponsible initiative'

In her statement regarding the criminal complaint, AKP Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Çerçioğlu included the following remarks:

"A criminal complaint has been filed with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the statements made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel that target me; which are untrue, baseless, constitute slander, and are intended to mislead the public.

These statements, which have no legal, factual, or concrete basis, constitute an irresponsible initiative that violates personal rights, aims to manipulate public opinion, and damages public order.

Such statements are compatible neither with the understanding of democratic politics nor with the principles of the rule of law.

As a person performing a public duty, it is out of the question for such accusations directed at me and the office I represent to be left unanswered.

Every kind of initiative aimed at slander, defamation, and discrediting has been submitted to the discretion of the judicial authorities within the framework of the principles of the rule of law"
