Another parliamentary question filed following 12punto's reports! Will Cansu be rescued from Taliban-ruled Afghanistan?

Report: Sinem Nazlı Demir

Following our reports on the experiences of Cansu Badur, who is awaiting help in the Afghan capital of Kabul, the reason why her return to Turkey has not been secured has once again been brought to the parliamentary agenda. DEM Party Diyarbakır MP Sevilay Çelenk has submitted a written parliamentary question to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to answer.

Çelenk pointed out that despite Cansu's calls for help and diplomatic contacts being reflected in the public eye months ago, she has still not been rescued from the conditions in which she is being subjected to violence.

In her motion, Çelenk recalled that Cansu's situation was reported by 12punto on April 12, 2026. Stating that subsequent reports also conveyed the contacts made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Kabul Embassy, Çelenk emphasized that despite this, her return to Turkey has not taken place.

The motion stated that the fact that a woman who fled violence and reached the Embassy is still in the same conditions months later poses a serious risk to her safety and right to life.

REACHED THE EMBASSY BUT COULD NOT RETURN TO TURKEY

According to her brother Alican Badur, who spoke to 12punto, Cansu was called to Afghanistan by Abdul Varsi Ndori, whom she met in Istanbul, with the promise that the money she lent him would be repaid. The family explained that Cansu was forced into marriage there under pressure and violence.

Procedures were initiated for the return of Cansu, who escaped from the house where she was subjected to violence at the end of February 2026 and reached the Turkish Embassy in Kabul. However, according to her family, she was prevented from leaving the country on March 6 at Kabul Airport on the grounds that there was an exit ban, and she was handed over to Ndori by Taliban officials.

Although it was reported that contacts were established following the calls for help that came after this process, Cansu could not be brought to Turkey.

FIVE QUESTIONS FOR THE MINISTRY: WHAT STEPS HAVE BEEN TAKEN?

In Çelenk's motion, it was asked when the Ministry first became aware of Cansu's situation and what concrete steps it has taken since that date.

Raising the issue of the justification for her being prevented from leaving the airport and handed over to the person who allegedly subjected her to violence, Çelenk demanded an explanation of what initiatives were taken to prevent this action and lift the exit ban.

The motion also asked why her return could not be secured despite her calls for help being reflected in the press in April, and what administrative or legal procedures were hindering this.

FOOTAGE OF HER BEING LOCKED IN THE BATHROOM ALSO IN THE MOTION

The footage Cansu most recently sent to 12punto revealed that the danger persists. In the footage, Cansu locks herself in the house's bathroom to protect herself from violence while the door to the room she is in is being forced from the outside.

Bringing this footage to the agenda, Çelenk asked whether the Ministry was aware of the new recordings and whether direct contact had been established with Cansu afterward.

PLAN AND TIMELINE REQUESTED FOR SAFE RETURN

Çelenk also directed questions to Fidan regarding the concrete plan the Ministry will implement and the timeline it envisions to ensure Cansu's safety, her access to healthcare services, and her safe return to Turkey.

Cansu's call for help, which 12punto brought to the agenda, has been conveyed to the Ministry once again with the new parliamentary question. The motion demanded an explanation of what steps will be taken for Cansu's protection and safe return after months of waiting.
