BDDK responds to AKP's Sayan's allegations against Kavcıoğlu: 'Legal proceedings will be initiated'

Following questions raised by AKP member Savcı Sayan regarding allegations that BDDK Chairman Şahap Kavcıoğlu requested 20 billion TL from Emre Tezmen and promised 35 billion TL in credit from Takasbank, the BDDK has issued a statement.

The institution described the allegations against Kavcıoğlu as "entirely baseless" and announced that legal proceedings would be initiated against those responsible.

In the statement issued by the BDDK, it was noted that misleading posts regarding the institution and Chairman Kavcıoğlu were being shared with the public, stating, "The allegations put forward in the aforementioned posts regarding our institution and our chairman are entirely baseless and have no legal or factual foundation."

The statement further noted that the institution's duties and areas of authority are clearly defined by relevant legislation, and that its roles and responsibilities in the process in question are limited to this framework.

The statement indicated that the baseless allegations harm the proper conduct of the process, and included the following remarks:

"Such posts, which constitute disinformation and target our institution and our chairman with unfounded accusations, not only mislead the public but also disrupt the healthy conduct of the process by the authorized institutions and organizations. In this context, necessary legal proceedings will be initiated against those responsible for targeting the reputation of our institution and our chairman, all our legal rights will be exercised with determination, and the process will be followed meticulously."

WHAT DID Savcı Sayan SAY?

AKP member Savcı Sayan posed 10 questions to BDDK Chairman Şahap Kavcıoğlu via his social media account on October 30, within the scope of the fund investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Sayan brought up the allegation that Kavcıoğlu met with businessman Emre Tezmen a few days before the fund crisis erupted and asked Tezmen to provide 20 billion TL to save Pusula Holding and Katılımevim.

Sayan also asked whether a 35 billion TL credit promise was made to Tezmen via Takasbank in exchange for this money, whether the money in question was used to save the shares of certain bureaucrats and politicians, and whether Kavcıoğlu's relatives held shares in the companies. He also raised the question of whether the BDDK had prepared a prior examination or risk report regarding the companies' activities.
