Breaking News... Court had issued a stay of execution: YSK decision on CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress!

The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance decided to halt the CHP Istanbul Extraordinary Provincial Congress shortly before it was set to begin. After CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik announced that they would proceed with the congress, a delegation arrived at the venue where the congress was being held to serve the court order.

Following the court's decision, the Supreme Election Council (YSK) decided to hold an emergency meeting. The YSK convened today at 1:30 PM.

Following the meeting, YSK Chairman Ahmet Yener made a statement.

Yener's statement is as follows:

"Following the notification to the Sarıyer District Election Board today regarding the writ stating that the Republican People's Party's Extraordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress was halted in accordance with the main decision of the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance, numbered 2025/254, the Sarıyer District Election Board requested our Council's opinion on whether the congress process, which had already begun, should continue. As a result of the meeting held by our Council at 1:30 PM, and as previously stated in decisions 2025/302, 315, and 316, it is not possible to halt a congress process that has already begun, in accordance with Article 79 of the Constitution and the relevant articles of election law. As a result of the meeting held by our Council, it has been decided that the Istanbul Extraordinary Congress, which has already begun, shall continue. Respectfully announced to the public."

DECISION SENT TO THAT COURT

The Supreme Election Council sent its decision regarding the continuation of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress to the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance for "necessary action."
