Bülent Arınç reacts to the debate and assault incidents in the Turkish Parliament: I never approve of this
Former Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Bülent Arınç made a statement on social media regarding the incidents that occurred during the swearing-in ceremony of Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek in Parliament.
Regarding the tension in Parliament during the swearing-in ceremony of Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, Arınç criticized the CHP, stating, "I watched what happened with great sadness. I never approve of these behaviors by the CHP group. Physical assault and the occupation of the podium are never behaviors that can be approved. The CHP should not have caused such a scene."
Bülent Arınç made a statement on social media regarding the incidents that occurred during the swearing-in ceremony of Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek in Parliament and used the following expressions:
"About a year ago, Minister of Justice Mr. Akın Gürlek, who took office today, was openly targeted in connection with certain investigations being conducted. At that time, I expressed my views on the subject and stated that the attitude adopted against a man of law on duty was wrong. What happened in the TBMM General Assembly today shows us that, unfortunately, the CHP has not abandoned this attitude. I followed the occupation of the podium, which could lead to a fight, and the subsequent events with sadness.
The CHP can express its reservations or criticisms regarding the Minister of Justice in any environment, but it is unthinkable for them to physically prevent a person appointed as a minister by the will of our President from taking the oath. This matter should have ended with Mr. Murat Emir's speech and the expression of his objections, or at most, they could have left the general assembly to protest. I describe it as a great misfortune for our Parliament that they attempted to occupy the podium without leaving the general assembly and that the process resulted in a fight, causing many deputies to be injured in a way that they would be harmed.
As someone who has served as the Speaker of the TBMM and as a member of parliament for 5 terms, and who has made it his duty to raise the reputation of the Parliament, I watched what happened with great sadness. I never approve of these behaviors by the CHP group. Physical assault and the occupation of the podium are never behaviors that can be approved. The CHP should not have caused such a scene."
