A debate over Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu between journalist Uğur Dündar and Democrat Party Deputy Chairman Cemal Enginyurt left its mark on the live broadcast. Stating that Turkey missed a historic opportunity in the May 14 elections, Dündar said, "History will not forgive Kılıçdaroğlu." 'Kılıçdaroğlu' debate between Cemal Enginyurt and Uğur Dündar! 'History will not forgive...'

As Turkey leaves the March 31 Local Elections behind, the fact that the CHP has become the leading party for the first time in 47 years remains a key topic on the agenda.

The results of the local elections were evaluated on the program "Sözün Gücü" (The Power of the Word), hosted by Ece Üner on Sözcü TV.

Tensions rose between Cemal Enginyurt and Uğur Dündar during the program.

"HISTORY WILL NOT FORGIVE KILIÇDAROĞLU"

Stating that a historic opportunity was missed on May 14, journalist Dündar criticized former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and said, 'History will not forgive him.'

Arguing that the election could have been won if Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu or Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş had been the candidate in the 2023 general elections, Dündar said that the Nation Alliance that was formed was a very wrong alliance.

ENGİNYURT'S REACTION TO DÜNDAR

Democrat Party MP Cemal Enginyurt, angered by these words from Dündar, said, "If we are talking about the CHP's first-place finish right now, we must say 'May God be pleased with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.' By setting up the 'Table of Halil İbrahim,' he brought brotherhood and national unity to this country."

Here is the debate that took place between Dündar and Enginyurt:

Uğur Dündar: Kılıçdaroğlu made the Turkish society miss a historic opportunity. If he had raised the hand of İmamoğlu or Yavaş and said 'here is our candidate,' we would be talking about something completely different right now. History will not forgive him.

Ece Üner: I wonder what he is thinking right now?

Cemal Enginyurt: How can this statement be correct? Kılıçdaroğlu received 25 million 500 thousand votes. The entire People's Alliance received 22 million 400 thousand votes in March 2024. So, did we win the election with 22 million 400 thousand votes? If we had made Ekrem the candidate, if we had made Mansur the candidate, if Mr. Kemal had not been the candidate, we achieved a great result; was the election won?

Uğur Dündar: It is not an assumption or anything. He would have definitely won.

Cemal Enginyurt: Uğur, my brother, if we are talking about the CHP's first-place finish right now, we must say "May God be pleased with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu." By setting up the 'Table of Halil İbrahim,' he brought brotherhood and national unity to this country.

Uğur Dündar: My brother, the CHP's votes were stuck at 25 percent. What happened now, it reached 37 percent. Did the CHP form an alliance?

Cemal Enginyurt: Of course it did!

Uğur Dündar: No, it didn't. The alliance Kılıçdaroğlu made was a very wrong alliance.

Cemal Enginyurt: I worked street by street for 45 days.

Uğur Dündar: You may be personally grateful to Mr. Kemal, but you cannot reconcile this with the general interests of Turkey. Both Mr. Mansur and Mr. Ekrem would have been elected president.

Cemal Enginyurt: Mr. Kemal would have been elected too. How can you say that, what kind of tone is this!

Uğur Dündar: It is a perfectly fine tone.
