CHP's Halıcı reacts to the IMM case in Silivri: This is a political operation
CHP Isparta Deputy Hikmet Yalım Halıcı made statements in Silivri regarding the case in which Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is also being tried. Halıcı described the judicial process as 'selective justice' and a 'political operation'.
CHP Isparta Deputy Hikmet Yalım Halıcı made evaluations regarding the IMM case, which is ongoing in Silivri and involves 414 defendants, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Making a statement in front of the courthouse, Halıcı stated that they do not view the process within the framework of law, but rather as a political intervention.
THIS IS NOT A PICTURE OF THE RULE OF LAW
Arguing that the case is not a product of an independent judiciary, Halıcı said, "Today, we are not just watching a biased hearing here; we are watching a blow dealt to the will of the people. This case is an attempt to liquidate the national will, which could not be defeated at the ballot box, in courtrooms." Claiming that courtrooms have been turned into places that no longer distribute justice, Halıcı stated that they do not see the current situation as a picture of a state governed by the rule of law.
Expressing that elected mayors, journalists, and academics are being treated as a threat, Halıcı touched upon the processes regarding the potential imprisonment of Ekrem İmamoğlu and the cancellation of his diploma, arguing that this situation is a "usurpation of will." Emphasizing that the issue is not limited to just one person but concerns the legal security of 85 million people, Halıcı stated that political competition should take place at the ballot box, not in courts, and gave the message, "We will not take a step back."
