CHP's Murat Bakan announces: Cash rewards to be given to law enforcement officers intervening in protests

CHP Deputy Chairman and İzmir MP Murat Bakan announced that the Ministry of Interior will provide cash rewards to police officers who took part in social events as part of the investigation conducted into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

Bakan stated the following: 

"I read a message from a police brother of mine on a live broadcast.

I am sharing that message with you:

“The Ministry of Interior, through an announcement made via the POLNET system, has notified that cash rewards will be given to personnel who took part in social events within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

We say it clearly: The police do not sell the law of their state and the honor of their nation for a pittance of hush money! They will not be a tool for these political operations that trample on the law!

Today, a police officer working 260 hours a month including additional duties receives an average salary of 55,000 TL; among civil servants, the person with the lowest hourly wage is the police officer: Only 200 TL!

Condemning the police to poverty and then expecting loyalty by stuffing a few coins into their pockets is humiliating and degrading. This is a clear attempt at discrediting.

Do not forget, the organization is aware of everything. These dirty games can neither stain our honor nor silence our conscience.”

Let Minister of Interior Mr. Ali Yerlikaya make the comment."
