103-year-old retired teacher Abdurrahman Gezer, one of the oldest living members of the CHP, has announced that he is leaving the party he joined in 1946.
103-year-old Abdurrahman Gezer, considered one of the oldest and longest-standing members of the CHP, has announced his resignation from the party.
Gezer, a retired teacher and graduate of the Village Institute, stated in an announcement on his social media account: "I have resigned from the CHP, which I joined in 1946, as of July 21, 2026. This is publicly announced."
The resignation of Gezer, known in Yalova as the "plane tree of the CHP," comes at a time when debates within the party are ongoing. Gezer had previously expressed his support for CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, but had remarked: "I am finishing my 103rd year. I am very tired. But what is happening in the CHP has tired me out a lot."
Gezer's termination of his membership, which he had maintained since 1946, has been noted as a significant development in the history of the CHP regarding long-term party memberships.
