CHP's Lütfü Obuz becomes Acting Mayor of İzmit Municipality

The İzmit Municipal Council held an extraordinary meeting to determine the person who will serve as acting mayor in place of Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet, who was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation and suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior.

During the extraordinary July council meeting chaired by Muhammed Ertürk, the CHP Group nominated Lütfü Obuz for the acting mayorship, while the AK Party Group nominated Hayrettin Ünlü.

Election completed in 3 rounds

The election was conducted via secret ballot with the participation of 37 members in total, consisting of 22 CHP members and 15 AK Party members. In the first round, 34 votes were counted as valid, while 3 votes were declared invalid due to dots or lines placed between the candidate names.

In this round, Lütfü Obuz received 21 votes and Hayrettin Ünlü received 13 votes. In the second round of voting, 1 vote was declared invalid; Obuz remained at 21 votes, while Ünlü received 15 votes.

In the third round of voting, where an absolute majority was required, all votes were counted as valid.

Lütfü Obuz received 22 votes and Hayrettin Ünlü received 15 votes. With this result, Lütfü Obuz, having secured the absolute majority, was elected as the Acting Mayor of İzmit Municipality.
