Police commissioner who slapped protester in Taksim suspended: 'Disproportionate intervention'
In Istanbul's Taksim, police interventions against citizens protesting in support of Palestine last week had drawn criticism. It has been learned that the female commissioner who slapped a protester has been suspended.
Police had intervened against a group called "A Thousand Youth for Palestine", which was demonstrating in support of Palestine in front of Odakule, one of the central points of Istanbul.
The detention of 43 people and the nature of the interventions had become a major topic of discussion.
One of the controversial interventions was the action of a female commissioner who slapped one of the citizens.
Following the incident in question, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya had announced that 2 police personnel had been suspended, but it was not known whether the police officer who slapped the protester was among them.

According to the report by Can Uğur from Cumhuriyet, the decision regarding that police officer has been reached.
Accordingly, it has been confirmed by police sources that the police officer in question was suspended on the grounds that 'the intervention against the demonstration was disproportionate and therefore not in accordance with the law.'
