Construction crisis in Silivri: Claims of 'postponement' 10 days before the IMM trial!

The trial, in which a total of 402 defendants, including 105 in custody, are to be tried—among them Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu—was scheduled to begin on March 9. However, it is being discussed that the construction of the new courtroom in Silivri, chosen due to the scale of the case, may not be completed in time.

It is stated that it is difficult for the complex, which covers an indoor area of 11 thousand square meters and was started by the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ) in December, to be finished in such a short time. In such a comprehensive case, more than 2 thousand people, including defendants, lawyers, family members, the press, and spectators, are expected to attend.

With only 10 days left until the trial date, it is observed that the construction is still at the exterior facade stage and there are many unfinished sections inside.

CLAIMS THAT THE HEARING MAY BE POSTPONED

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, it has been claimed that due to the courtroom not being ready, only a roll call will be held on the first day of the trial, and the actual hearings could be postponed to the end of May or the beginning of June. Although not yet finalized, the new trial date is expected to become clear based on the completion date of the construction.
