Deniz Göktaş's request for release denied
The Istanbul 5th Criminal Court of First Instance has rejected the appeal against comedian Deniz Göktaş's detention and ruled for his continued imprisonment.
The appeal against comedian Deniz Göktaş's detention has been rejected by the court. Evaluating the application filed by Göktaş's lawyers, the Istanbul 5th Criminal Court of First Instance concluded that the arrest warrant was in accordance with procedure and the law.
In its ruling, the court stated that "the nature and character of the crime, as well as the decision, are in accordance with procedure and the law," and therefore ruled that the appeal should not be accepted. Thus, it was decided that Göktaş's detention would continue.
WHAT HAPPENED?
An investigation had been launched against Deniz Göktaş on charges of "insulting the President" due to statements he made during one of his shows. Göktaş, who was taken into custody, was arrested by the duty magistrate judge to whom he was referred.
