Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu reacts to detention order: 'It is an injustice to the entire society'
Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu, wife of CHP presidential hopeful and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, reacted to the detention order in a post on her social media account. Dilek İmamoğlu stated her belief that 'the nation will respond to these moves against its will.'
Sharing a message via her X account, Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu argued that the detention order was directed at the will of the nation. Reacting to the detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu and 105 others, Dilek İmamoğlu stated that the operation was aimed at discrediting them.
Emphasizing that Ekrem İmamoğlu's only crime was not being defeated at the ballot box, Dilek İmamoğlu used the following expressions:
''Those who drag our country into economic ruin do not hesitate to carry out the same destruction in the fields of law and justice to protect their power. They are trying to eliminate their rivals, whom they know they will lose to at the ballot box, through the law. On March 18, 2025, the university diploma of my dear husband, Turkey Union of Municipalities and IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, was unlawfully cancelled by the university administration, which has no authority to cancel diplomas.
On the morning of March 19, we woke up to a raid on our home by law enforcement officers shortly after the pre-dawn meal (sahur). My husband, Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was elected by the votes of 16 million Istanbulites, was taken into custody. My 13-year-old daughter, Beren, went to school after witnessing these detention procedures. These dawn raids targeting mayors and public employees, who would have gone to give their statements on their own feet if invited, are entirely aimed at intimidation, fear, and discrediting.
Everyone knows the real reason for the investigations into Ekrem İmamoğlu very well. Not only Turkey but the whole world is aware that the real reason is Ekrem İmamoğlu winning the love of the nation. Today, Ekrem İmamoğlu has been detained because he has defeated his rivals 4 times at the ballot box. Those who do not want to lose at the next ballot box have made this move, which they have been planning for a long time, by trampling on democracy.
What is being done is an injustice to our children in daycare, to the laborers filling their stomachs at city restaurants, to the people walking in city forests, to the workers staying in dormitories, and to the entire society. No one is safe in a place where there is no justice. Do not worry. Be at peace.
The nation sees very well that these interventions are actually directed at its own will. No one remains silent, nor should they remain silent, in the face of such great injustice and lawlessness. I have no doubt that the nation will give the best response to these moves against its will. I trust in the wisdom of this nation and believe with all my heart that justice will prevail.
Ekrem İmamoğlu is entrusted to the nation.''

İMAMOĞLU'S DETENTION PROCESS
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor and Republican People's Party (CHP) presidential hopeful Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained this morning following the cancellation of his university diploma last night. İmamoğlu, who was detained in an operation conducted at his home in the morning hours, was brought to the Istanbul Police Department around 10:00. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office drew attention by using the term 'criminal organization leader' regarding İmamoğlu.
The grounds for the operation were cited as accusations such as being a manager of a criminal organization, being a member of a criminal organization, extortion, bribery, and aggravated fraud. It was stated that the investigation was being conducted within the scope of the money-counting footage reflected in the press and the MASAK report. In this context, a detention order was issued for 100 people.
It was announced that a detention order was also issued for İmamoğlu and 6 others on charges of 'aiding the PKK terrorist organization.' The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office brought up allegations that people with links to the PKK were hired at the IMM and its affiliated institutions.
Within the scope of the operation, detention orders were issued for 106 people, including Tuncay Yılmaz, Fatih Keleş, Ertan Yıldız, Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, Deputy Secretary General of IMM Mahir Polat, Chairman of the Board of IMM Medya AŞ Murat Ongun, President of IPA Buğra Gökce, President of the Reform Institute Mehmet Ali Çalışkan, İmamoğlu's campaign advisor Necati Özkan, and artist Ercan Saatçi.
As of 10:40, 84 people for whom detention orders were issued were taken to police units. Deputy Secretary General of IMM Mahir Polat and Chairman of the Board of IMM Medya AŞ Murat Ongun announced on social media that they had been detained.
The detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu has caused a wide echo in political circles. İmamoğlu's lawyers stated that they would take the necessary initiatives to ensure that the detention process proceeds in accordance with the law. CHP officials, on the other hand, reacted by describing the operation as politically motivated.
