DMM responds to Özgür Özel's 'Öcalan' claim

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's handshake with DEM Party deputies and his call to PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan continue to hold their place on the agenda as part of the new reconciliation process.

The DEM Party Imralı Delegation, which met with terrorist leader Öcalan for the third time on February 27, read out Öcalan's call to lay down arms following the meeting.

STRIKING CLAIM FROM ÖZEL

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel made a striking claim regarding the background of the new reconciliation process. Özel had alleged that negotiations have been ongoing for over a year and that a four-person delegation, with one member having full authority, has been accompanying the talks on behalf of the state.

DENIAL FROM DMM TO ÖZEL

The Presidential Communications Directorate's Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) denied Özgür Özel's claims following the call by PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan for the PKK to lay down its arms.

The following was noted in the post on the DMM's social media account:

"The claims that 'negotiations have been ongoing for over a year. A table consisting of over 20 legal experts, including a member of the Constitutional Court, members of the Court of Cassation, and high-ranking judges, is conducting work' are absolutely untrue. There is no negotiation regarding any constitutional/legal changes in exchange for Öcalan's 'call to lay down arms and for the organization to dissolve itself.' Disinformation activities carried out/to be carried out by those who want to prevent positive steps towards a 'Terror-Free Turkey' should not be given credence."

WHAT DID ÖZGÜR ÖZEL SAY?

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had made statements to the press alongside YRP Chairman Fatih Erbakan following his visit to the New Welfare Party (YRP) Headquarters in Ankara.

Speaking there about the background of terrorist leader Öcalan's call, the CHP Chairman had said that negotiations had been ongoing for over a year and that a four-person delegation, with one member having full authority, was accompanying the talks on behalf of the state.

Stating, "With your knowledge, a table consisting of over 20 legal experts, including a member of the Constitutional Court, members of the Court of Cassation, and high-ranking judges, will be working somewhere," Özel had expressed, "If it happens, I will own it; if there are good results, let me benefit from it, and if there are bad results, let me stay away. This nation is not a nation that can be deceived like this, whose intelligence can be underestimated. If you are going to do a job, you will take responsibility for it, you will show the courage. The nation has given you this duty, given you this authority."

Furthermore, stating that Erdoğan should make a clear statement regarding the process, Özel had noted the following:

"We find it extremely insincere that Recep Tayyip Erdoğan watches the issue from somewhere in a cowardly, not even passive, manner as if there is nothing on the sidelines of his secret agenda negotiations, and loads all the political risk onto his partner's back, thinking that if any advantage comes out of this, he will go and profit from it."
