Drug scandal at Turkey's Embassy in Minsk
It has been revealed that a staff member at Turkey's Embassy in Minsk was involved in drug trafficking. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli made a statement regarding the matter.
It was reported that an embassy vehicle departing from Belarus was seized in Zeytinburnu with 57 kilograms of cocaine. Following the incident, it was stated that the personnel in question had their employment terminated in February 2023.
Statement from the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson
In his statement, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Öncü Keçeli said, "The information that a contracted staff member working at the Minsk Embassy was caught while trafficking drugs is correct. This individual was immediately dismissed. The necessary investigation into the incident has been initiated."
Keçeli also emphasized that the vehicle used in the incident did not belong to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "The information that the vehicle used in the incident belongs to our Minsk Embassy is incorrect. The car in question is the personal vehicle of the individual involved in the incident. The other two people mentioned in the news reports have no connection to our Ministry," he said.
