Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör could not hold back his tears while talking about Mustafa Kemal Atatürk during a television program he attended. Şengör stated, "Look, my entire family is from Rumelia. My two late grandfathers used to say, 'We are people who lost their homeland. Atatürk gifted us a homeland.'"

Unable to hold back his tears, Şengör said, "Look, my entire family is from Rumelia. My two late grandfathers used to say, 'We are people who lost their homeland. Atatürk gifted us a homeland.' There is a very beautiful quatrain by Neyzen Tevfik, where he says, 'Do not curse Atatürk; if it weren't for Him, you would know who your mother was, but you wouldn't know who your father was.'"
