Housing warning from Ahmet Ercan: Do not buy an apartment if it lacks this document!

Seismologist Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan listed the measures that must be taken to prevent earthquake-related destruction in a post on his social media account. Ercan stated that a "site-structure safety certificate" should be mandatory for every building and that this document should be registered on the title deed.

Prof. Dr. Ercan expressed his proposal with the following statements:

“To prevent the destructive and deadly consequences of earthquakes, solid structures must be built on solid ground. To ensure this:

1- Building inspection organizations should be transformed into site-structure inspection organizations.

2- A site-structure safety certificate should be mandatory for every building and registered on the title deed.

3- The rental or sale of buildings without a site-structure safety certificate should be prohibited.”

Ercan stated that with this regulation, a clear standard regarding the earthquake resistance of buildings would be established and the use of unsafe structures would be prevented.

The solution to ensure earthquakes are not destructive or deadly is a SOLID STRUCTURE ON SOLID GROUND. To ensure this,

1. Building Inspection Organizations should be transformed into SITE-STRUCTURE INSPECTION ORGANIZATIONS.

2. A SITE-STRUCTURE SAFETY CERTIFICATE should be required for every structure. This document should be registered on the title deed.
