Operation against 'phone scammers' by İzmir public security police! 'Our code is the Crescent and Star flag'

Teams from the İzmir Public Security Branch Fraud Bureau, under the coordination of the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, launched a follow-up on 'phone scammers' who, between July and September 2023 in İzmir, posed as police officers and prosecutors to deceive citizens into selling their homes and summer houses, defrauding them of 120 thousand Euros, 90 thousand dollars, and 1 million 100 thousand TL. Following 4 months of physical and technical surveillance, a simultaneous operation was carried out based in İzmir, with additional actions in Şanlıurfa and Adana.

The İzmir Public Security Branch teams, which have drawn attention with their successful operations in recent months, took 4 people into custody during the operation, which involved 1,300 kilometers of tracking. These individuals included M.Ç. and A.V., who attempted to escape via the fire escape while breaking phones and computers, as well as H.D. and M.K., who acted as couriers for a commission to collect the money.

OUR CODE IS THE CRESCENT AND STAR FLAG

It was learned that the scammers increased their credibility by pressuring the people they deceived over the phone with the ruse: "You are in a secret operation. Our code is the Crescent and Star flag. Do not give information to anyone who does not say this code."

After their interrogations at the İzmir Public Security Branch Fraud Bureau, the 4 individuals were referred to the court, where they were arrested and sent to prison. A large number of digital materials were also seized during the operations.
