Journalist Metin Cihan's X account blocked in Turkey

Journalist Metin Cihan had been on the country's agenda for a long time with his reports claiming that Turkey had not cut off trade with Israel.

As of Saturday, Cihan's X account cannot be accessed from Turkey. It is stated that the court issued the access ban for the "protection of national security and public order."

Various statements had been made on the subject by government officials and AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In a statement, Erdoğan had said, "We have completely cut off trade with Israel, abandoning a trade volume of 9.5 billion. We filed our application to intervene in the genocide case at the International Court of Justice in recent months."

The Ministry of Trade, on the other hand, had repeatedly denied reports that trade with Israel had not been cut off.

Metin Cihan had also shared documents on his personal X account showing that various Turkish companies, some of which are members of the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (MÜSİAD) known for their proximity to the AKP, continued to export barbed wire, cement, and petroleum products to Israel.

Cihan had also reported that Pamukkale Kablo, owned by Mustafa Semerci, a founding member of the Great Unity Party (BBP), one of the partners of the ruling People's Alliance, was the "number one cable supplier" to the Israeli Army.
