Justice Minister Tunç: Calls for street protests are unlawful and never acceptable

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya described Özel's call as 'irresponsibility.' Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç also stated in his post regarding the call that it was unlawful.

Here is that statement from Justice Minister Tunç:

The right to assembly and demonstration is a fundamental right. However, calls for street protests regarding ongoing judicial investigations are unlawful and never acceptable.

In investigations conducted by judicial authorities, the place to respond to the accusations made is not the streets, but the independent and impartial judiciary.

Everyone should act with common sense during this process; especially those in positions of responsibility must show greater attention and care in their statements.

It is not possible to change the facts by making provocative statements or by threatening the judiciary. Judicial members do not take instructions from anywhere when making their decisions, nor are they influenced by the streets; they only make decisions based on the scope of the file.

When the investigation is completed, the content of the file, the allegations, the defenses, and the evidence will be presented to the public with full transparency, and the material truth will be clearly revealed along with the allegations and defenses.

In light of the collected evidence, the independent and impartial judiciary will make the decision, and legal remedies against these decisions are open until the end and are subject to review within our legal system.

In this process, it is necessary to wait for the result of the investigation calmly without passing judgment in advance.

There is no benefit to anyone in pitting our citizens against our police or in stirring up the streets with provocations.

Those who want to disturb the peace of our nation will never be given the opportunity.
