Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü, rumored to be joining the AKP, puts an end to speculation: Erdoğan had said 'our door is open'
CHP's Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü, who was alleged to be joining the AKP, has put an end to the claims with a statement.
Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü, whom AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had invited to his party, has denied the AKP claims and announced that he will join the YENİ Party.
Speaking to Halk TV regarding the transfer rumors, Ünlü announced that he will be wearing the YENİ Party badge at a ceremony to be held on Monday.
In Marmaris, the municipal council balance is 14 to 9 in favor of the opposition, with 2 council members currently independent.
ERDOĞAN HAD SAID 'IF YOU WANT TO COME, OUR DOOR IS OPEN'
Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü had previously made headlines due to a dialogue he had with AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
When Ünlü greeted him after Friday prayers in the Marmaris district of Muğla on August 21, saying, "Welcome, sir, is there anything we can do?", Erdoğan replied, "Our door is open if you want to come."
To these words from Erdoğan, Ünlü responded, "Thank you, we were asking if there is anything we can do as a municipality..."
