Meteorology issues warning: Downpours and strong winds are coming

The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) has published its weather forecast report for Friday, July 31, 2026. According to the report, partly to very cloudy weather will be effective in the northern and inner parts of the country. Local downpours and thunderstorms are expected in the Eastern Black Sea region, as well as in the vicinity of Kars and Ardahan.

According to the MGM's assessment, precipitation will be seen in the vicinity of Trabzon, Rize, and Artvin, as well as in the inner parts of Giresun, Samsun, and Ordu. In the northeast of Eastern Anatolia, local downpours and thunderstorms are forecast for the vicinity of Kars and Ardahan. In other regions, the weather is expected to be generally clear and slightly cloudy.

No significant change in air temperatures is foreseen across the country. While temperatures are expected to hover around seasonal norms, high temperatures will continue to be effective in some southeastern provinces. Temperatures are estimated to reach 43 degrees in Diyarbakır and Şanlıurfa, 42 degrees in Siirt, and 40 degrees in Mardin.

STRONG WIND WARNING

While the wind is expected to generally blow at moderate strength from northern directions, it was reported that it will blow strongly at speeds of 30-60 km/h in the east of Central Anatolia, the inner parts of the Central Black Sea, and the inner parts of the Mediterranean.

In the Marmara and North Aegean coasts, the wind is expected to be strong, reaching speeds of 50-70 km/h in the form of short-term storms in some places. The MGM announced that one should be careful and take precautions against negative consequences such as disruptions in transportation and roof damage.

In the Marmara region, the wind is projected to blow at 40-60 km/h in Thrace and the west of Istanbul, Kocaeli, Yalova, and Bursa, and at 50-70 km/h in Balıkesir and Çanakkale. While strong winds are also expected in the north of the Aegean, there is a possibility of short-term storms reaching 70 km/h in some places in İzmir and Manisa.

The expected maximum temperatures in some cities are as follows: Istanbul 29, Ankara 29, İzmir 36, Antalya 39, Adana 36, Trabzon 26, Rize 27, Kars 29, Van 31, and Malatya 37 degrees.
