Minister Tunç announces: Flash move following courthouse robbery scandal
Following the theft of gold from the Büyükçekmece Courthouse and the theft of weapons from the Adalar Courthouse, judicial evidence rooms across Turkey have come under scrutiny. Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that a comprehensive nationwide inspection has begun.
The disappearance of 25 kilograms of gold from the evidence room of the Büyükçekmece Courthouse and the loss of 12 weapons discovered at the Adalar Courthouse have mobilized the justice system. These two consecutive incidents have caused alarm at the highest levels of the state.
STATEMENT FROM MINISTER TUNÇ
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç responded to questions regarding the thefts that have occupied the agenda. Tunç stated, "Investigations by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding judicial evidence and matters concerning the Adalar are ongoing," noting that the process is being examined in all its details.
“10 DETAINED, 2 ARRESTED”
Reminding that a large-scale inspection has been launched both in the locations where the incidents occurred and in evidence rooms across Turkey, Minister Tunç said, "Detention orders were issued by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office; there are 10 detainees and 2 arrests, and efforts regarding a red notice are also continuing."
DETAILS OF THE GOLD HEIST IN BÜYÜKÇEKMECE
It was revealed that approximately 25 kilograms of gold and 50 kilograms of silver were stolen from the evidence office of the Büyükçekmece Courthouse. While Kemal D. was detained in connection with the loss, which has a market value of 150 million liras, it was determined that the evidence clerk Erdal T. had fled to Britain, and an application had been made to issue a red notice for him.
ADALAR COURTHOUSE AFTER BÜYÜKÇEKMECE
At the Adalar Courthouse, it was understood that 12 weapons had gone missing from the Crime Evidence and Property Warehouse. In the incident where court clerk U.E. was arrested on allegations of stealing and selling the weapons, two weapons were found on U.E. and one weapon was found in the home of a suspect in terrorism and organized crime, while the remaining nine weapons could not be located. The Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that the investigation is being deepened and continued.
