Mustafa Varank labels animal rights activists as 'looters': 'They are stomping around disrespectfully'

While the law regarding stray animals continues to be debated due to its article containing euthanasia, a group of animal rights activists advocating for the animals' right to life went to the parliament to express their reaction.

The animal rights activists, who were not allowed into the committee meeting, expressed their reaction by shouting "murderers" after Article 5, which accepts euthanasia, was approved.

The Chairman of the Parliament's Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Committee, AKP Bursa Deputy Mustafa Varank, shared the video in question on his social media account and complained about the animal rights activists to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, AKP member Numan Kurtulmuş.

Varank complained about the images in question with the following words:

"Honorable Speaker,

While we invite our sensible citizens who come with decorum to the TBMM with great difficulty, how is it that these looters can stomp around disrespectfully in the corridors of the Parliament?

I submit this to your attention, Numan Kurtulmuş," he said, while his choice of the term 'looter' (çapulcu)—which was used by AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan for those who participated in the Gezi Park protests—drew attention.
