New development regarding the detention of Merdan Yanardağ
The detention period for TELE1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ, who was taken into custody on charges of "espionage," has been extended by another 24 hours.
TELE1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ had been taken into custody as part of an investigation conducted on charges of "espionage." In this context, it was reported that Yanardağ's detention period has been extended by one more day. Yanardağ's lawyer, Bilgitay Durna, stated that this decision has been communicated to his family.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Yanardağ was taken into custody from his home yesterday morning and brought to the Istanbul Police Department. On the same day, a search was conducted at the TELE1 building, and it was announced in the evening that a trustee had been appointed to the channel.
In a statement made before he was taken into custody, Yanardağ expressed that the operation had a political nature, saying, "This is a poorly constructed setup. I have stood in solidarity with the Palestinian people and have only practiced journalism." Yanardağ had claimed that those trading with Israel were the ones who organized this operation against him.
