New era for Istanbul-Ankara buses! Starts in November 2026

The express service model in intercity bus transportation is being extended to the Istanbul-Ankara line. The model, which was tested on the Istanbul-Izmir route, is planned to be launched between Istanbul and Ankara as of November 2026.

In the new model, buses will provide direct transportation between the two cities without stopping at intermediate drop-off and pick-up points along the route. Consequently, stops such as Kocaeli, Sakarya, Düzce, Bolu, Beypazarı, and Polatlı will be bypassed on express services.

The regulation aims to shorten travel time. Companies will be able to offer both classic and express services on the same route. Thus, passengers will be able to choose tickets based on their need for intermediate stops or their preference for a shorter travel time.

According to the initial planning, it is anticipated that a significant portion of existing services will be converted to the express model. However, it is noted that the implementation will initially be carried out by a limited number of bus companies and may be expanded to other firms depending on demand.

It is assessed that the impact of the Istanbul-Ankara High-Speed Train line on passenger preferences is also a determining factor in this move by bus companies. The goal is to increase the competitiveness of road transport with shorter travel times.
