Police shoot fugitive 'drug dealer' in Adana: Locals injure 6 officers
In Adana, a convict wanted with a finalized 21-year prison sentence for drug trafficking was shot and apprehended by police while an attempt was being made to help him escape; it was learned that locals and his relatives injured 6 police officers and damaged 3 police vehicles with sticks and stones.
According to the information obtained, the incident took place in the Şehit Erkut Akbay neighborhood of the central Yüreğir district. Allegedly, investigation teams from the Adana Police Department's Yüreğir District Police Directorate determined that Engin D. (29), who had a finalized 21-year prison sentence for drug trafficking, was in the Şehit Erkut Akbay neighborhood.
Police raided the neighborhood to apprehend the convict. However, when the convict's relatives and surrounding citizens attacked the police, Engin D. attempted to flee. Upon this, the police shot Engin D. in the legs and apprehended him.
The police then took Engin D. to the hospital. It was learned that the convict's health condition is good. It was determined that 6 police officers were injured and 3 police vehicles were damaged with stones and sticks as a result of the attack by neighborhood residents and the convict's relatives. The police have launched a large-scale operation to apprehend those involved in the incident.
