President Erdoğan speaks with Donald Trump
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with the 45th President of the United States and presidential candidate Donald Trump.
The conversation addressed the assassination attempt against Trump and the subsequent events.
During the call, Erdoğan once again condemned the assassination attempt against Donald Trump, expressing his sorrow over the attack and conveying his best wishes for a speedy recovery.
AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan described the assassination attempt as an attack on democracy. He stated that the courageous stance Trump displayed following the heinous attack was admirable, that his decision to continue his schedule without interruption strengthened democracy, and that this should be seen as an indicator of his confidence in the discernment of the American people.
In the conversation, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan noted that Trump demonstrated strong leadership with his calming messages of unity aimed at reducing polarization and tension following the assassination attempt, and congratulated Donald Trump on being officially nominated as the US Presidential Candidate by the Republican Party.
President Erdoğan expressed his hope that the US Presidential election to be held in November will be auspicious for the American people and for Turkey-US relations.
