Prison sentence for journalist Sedef Kabaş

The verdict has been announced in the trial against journalist Sedef Kabaş, which was initiated due to her social media post targeting Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Governor Fatih Karahan.

An indictment was prepared against journalist Sedef Kabaş by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in May on charges of "publicly disseminating misleading information."

The indictment alleged that the post Kabaş made on social media caused misinformation among the public.

A PRISON SENTENCE OF 1 TO 3 YEARS HAD BEEN REQUESTED

The prosecution had requested a prison sentence ranging from 1 to 3 years for Kabaş's actions.

At the conclusion of the trial, the court ruled that the elements of the crime had been met and sentenced her to 10 months in prison, but decided to defer the announcement of the verdict.
