The statement declared, "Buca Municipality has also been a stakeholder in the construction and opening of this dormitory through its irregular actions."
In Buca, İzmir, the public took to the streets to protest the Yusuf Ziya Yalçın Higher Education Male Student Dormitory, opened by the İhlas Foundation, which belongs to the Işıkçılar sect. The press statement held at Üçkuyular Square was led by members of the People's Representatives Assembly of Turkey (THTM).
In the press statement, attention was drawn to the state's insufficient dormitory capacity, stating, "Young people are being forced into sect and community dormitories." The statement, which also targeted Buca Municipality, included the remarks: “Buca Municipality has also been a stakeholder in the construction and opening of this dormitory through its irregular actions.”

Elif Doğan Çiftçi, a member of the People's Representatives Assembly of Turkey (THTM) who read the press statement, used the following expressions:
"In the face of the deepening poverty for the vast majority of society every passing day, no one is holding the handful of bosses who have seized all the country's resources accountable for their wealth!
On the contrary, sects and the reactionism they spread are needed for this to continue.
Sects, which steal the lives and futures of young people, women, and children, are attempting to spread reactionism through their dormitories, courses, schools, and associations to establish the social order they target.
These structures, which were banned and closed a hundred years ago, are filling the void intentionally left by the state under the mask of foundations and associations. All public institutions provide every convenience to the initiatives of sects and communities, sometimes through legal regulations, sometimes through protocols, and sometimes through the legal permits they grant."

In her press statement, Çiftçi directed the following questions to Buca Municipality:
*On what basis did you issue the building permit for 5 floors for the construction of the dormitory, which was permitted for 4 floors in the zoning plan?
*On what basis did you issue a building permit for dormitory purposes in this area, which was designated as a "Daycare Area" in the zoning plan?
*If you did not issue the building permit for dormitory purposes, how did this sect dormitory obtain an operating license?
*If there is no explanation regarding the irregularities we mentioned, will you seal this dormitory and stop its operations?
