Public order operation in Istanbul: 531 individuals wanted for various crimes and draft evaders apprehended
In a public order operation conducted in Istanbul yesterday, 531 suspects wanted for various crimes were apprehended.
Istanbul Provincial Police Department teams conducted a two-stage inspection in traffic and public spaces under the name "Peaceful Istanbul."
The first stage of the inspection took place between 20:00 and 22:00 at 221 locations across the city, with 1,796 personnel participating. A police helicopter and 2 boats from the Marine Port Branch also supported the teams during the operation.
In the second stage, 1,729 personnel inspected public spaces between 22:00 and 23:59.
During the inspections, general information checks were performed on 242 thousand 268 people, and 531 individuals were apprehended out of 827 suspects wanted for various crimes and 486 draft evaders.
Searches resulted in the seizure of 229 unlicensed pistols and rifles, 11 blank-firing pistols, 171 cartridges, 1 kilogram 893 grams of narcotics, 6 narcotic pills, and 190 thousand 698 Turkish Lira and 1,351 dollars suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking.
Inspections carried out in 653 public places resulted in legal action against 3 businesses and 3 foreign nationals.
Furthermore, 38 thousand 686 vehicles and 2,124 motorcycles were checked during the inspections. Legal action was taken against 2,065 vehicles and motorcycles and 60 drivers, while 12 vehicles were banned from traffic.
A total of 1 million 267 thousand 734 Turkish Lira in traffic fines were issued to drivers.
